3D Density Histograms for Criteria-driven Edge Bundling
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a graph bundling algorithm that agglomerates edges taking into account both spatial proximity as well as user-defined criteria in order to reveal patterns that were not perceivable with previous bundling techniques. Each edge belongs to a group that may either be an input of the problem or found by clustering one or more edge properties such as origin, destination, orientation, length or domain-specific properties. Bundling is driven by a stack of density maps, with each map capturing both the edge density of a given group as well as interactions with edges from other groups. Density maps are efficiently calculated by smoothing 2D histograms of edge occurrence using repeated averaging filters based on integral images. A CPU implementation of the algorithm is tested on several graphs, and different grouping criteria are used to illustrate how the proposed technique can render different visualizations of the same data. Bundling performance is much higher than on previous approaches, being particularly noticeable on large graphs, with millions of edges being bundled in seconds.

Interactive 3D Force-Directed Edge Bundling on Clustered Edges
Graphs play an important role in data analysis. Especially, graphs with a natural spatial embedding can benefit from a 3D visualization. But even more then in 2D, graphs visualized as intuitively readable 3D node-link diagrams can become very cluttered. This makes graph exploration and data analysis difficult. For this reason, we focus on the challenge of reducing edge clutter by utilizing edge...
متن کاملInteractive 3D Force-Directed Edge Bundling
Interactive analysis of 3D relational data is challenging. A common way of representing such data are node-link diagrams as they support analysts in achieving a mental model of the data. However, naïve 3D depictions of complex graphs tend to be visually cluttered, even more than in a 2D layout. This makes graph exploration and data analysis less efficient. This problem can be addressed by edge ...

1 Graph streams have been studied extensively, such as for data mining, while fairly limitedly for visualizations. Recently, edge bundling promises to diminish visual clutter in large graph visualizations, though mainly focusing on static graphs. This paper presents a new framework, namely StreamEB, for edge bundling of graph streams, which integrates temporal, neighbourhood, data-driven and sp...

متن کاملTGI-EB: A New Framework for Edge Bundling Integrating Topology, Geometry and Importance
Edge bundling methods became popular for visualising large dense networks; however, most of previous work mainly relies on geometry to define compatibility between the edges. In this paper, we present a new framework for edge bundling, which tightly integrates topology, geometry and importance. In particular, we introduce new edge compatibility measures, namely importance compatibility and topo...
